Step 2: Match the Fiber to the Final Use

- TENCEL Modal — soft, stable, good for blankets and knitwear.
- Lenzing EcoVero Viscose — a viscose option with a sustainability story, often used in lightweight woven garments.
- MicroModal — very fine and soft, used for premium underwear and lightweight knits.
If someone asks about 'blanket lenzing tejido,' they're usually looking for a Modal-based knit. But 'tejido' means fabric, so the answer is never just one material. It's a fiber plus a construction.
This is also where the question appears: 'is lenzing ecovero breathable?' The honest answer: yes, EcoVero is breathable as a viscose fiber. But breathability is a fabric property, not a fiber property. A heavy brushed fleece made from EcoVero will not breathe like a light woven EcoVero. For a performance fabric rain shell, the membrane and face fabric matter more than the fiber.
Step 3: Specify the Construction, Not Just the Fiber
I ignored this for too long. Fiber type tells you what the material is. Construction tells you how it will behave.
In 2022, I approved a Modal blanket because the sample felt great. The mill's sample was 220 gsm, double-brushed. The production run came in at 240 gsm because 'the machine drifted.' This is probably the most ignored step. A pre-production sample is great, but it doesn't guarantee what the production batch will look like. Dye lots shift. Yarn lots shift. Machines drift.
Ask your mill for a lot sample: a piece cut from the actual production batch before it ships. If they can't provide one, add a clause to the order that rejects goods beyond an agreed tolerance. In the past 18 months, this checklist has caught 11 potential errors for our team. That's not because the mills are dishonest. It's because manufacturing has variance.
Step 7: Put the Tolerances in the Purchase Order
